A Brief History of the Irish American Club East Side, Inc
In January 1978, a group of East Side Irish enthusiasts gathered before the Super Bowl for the very first meeting, sparking the creation of what would become the Irish American Club – East Side, Inc. Within just two months, the original venue was bursting at the seams, so the group relocated to Smith's Restaurant in Euclid, Ohio.
Chartered on March 17, 1978, the IACES was born to celebrate Irish heritage in a warm, family-friendly setting, hosting a variety of social, cultural, educational, and athletic events. By May 1978, we had our first officers in place.
As our membership grew, we moved into the Elk's Lodge in Euclid, our "temporary" home that soon became a bustling hub of activity. With a vibrant Entertainment Committee organizing monthly events, a dedicated Schanachie publishing our newsletters, and a Building Committee on the hunt for a permanent clubhouse, our vision started to take shape. In October 1981, after careful planning and financial checks, we decided to purchase the Furniture Land Building in Euclid.
Renovations began on November 15, 1981, and the Furniture Land Store was transformed into the Irish American Club, East Side, Inc. Our Grand Opening Celebration on January 23, 1982, marked the exciting start of a new chapter.
Since those early days in 1978, our members have been at the heart of our club’s journey, embracing the spirit of camaraderie and celebrating Irish culture with pride.
